You can easily measure without breaking out a ruler. Walk the perimeter of the area you want to enclose, counting your steps the whole way. Multiply your total steps by 2 ½, and that’s the amount of linear feet you need.

To calculate linear feet for a fence:

1. Measure the Perimeter: Using a tape measure, measure the length of each side of the area you want to enclose. Include all sides in your measurement.
2. Add Measurements Together: Add the lengths of all sides together to get the total linear feet. This is the amount of fencing material you will need.For example, if each side of a square lot is 50 feet, then total linear feet = 50 ft (side 1) + 50 ft (side 2) + 50 ft (side 3) + 50 ft (side 4) = 200 ft.
3. Consider Gates and Corners: If you plan to have gates or need to navigate corners, these measurements should be included in your total linear footage.
4. Adjust for Obstacles: If there are obstacles like trees or rocks, measure the distance around them and include this in your total.

This calculation gives you the total linear feet required for fencing material. Remember to buy a little extra to account for mistakes or adjustments.

This is a question we are asked almost every day. For most dog breeds, we recommend a 5-foot tall fence and a minimum of 200 linear feet of fencing to meet their space requirements. While we offer kits as small as 100 linear feet, these were designed primarily to be used as expansion kits for existing customers and for smaller dogs (like a shih tzu).

A small 100-foot dog fence kit does not provide enough area for most dogs to run and play, and therefore your dog will constantly try to dig, climb and chew his or her way out of the small

How much space does a dog need?

The space a dog needs depends on its size, dog’s breed, energy level, and individual temperament, with different dog breeds having varying requirements. Understanding how much space dogs need both indoors and outdoors is crucial for their well-being. Generally:

1. Small breeds like Chihuahuas or Dachshunds can thrive in smaller spaces like apartments, as long as they get regular exercise outside.
2. Medium breeds like Beagles or Bulldogs require more space and benefit from having access to a yard or frequent walks.
3. Large breeds like German Shepherds or Labradors need ample space to move and play, ideally with access to a large yard.

Regardless of size, all dogs need daily exercise, mental stimulation, and a safe, comfortable area to rest. Regular walks, playtime, and interaction are crucial for their well-being, even if living in a spacious environment.

How much space does a dog need indoor?

The space required for a dog to live comfortably indoors varies based on its breed, size, and activity level. It’s important to provide a secure and peaceful personal space for your dog, free from drafts and traffic. Generally, a dog’s indoor environment should provide:

• Sufficient room in its sleeping area to stand, turn around, and recline with ease.
• A specific sleeping spot that is distinct from areas used for living and eating.
• Continuous availability of fresh water and food.
• Opportunities for play and exercise within the living space, or access to an outdoor area for physical activities.

How much outdoor space does a dog need?

The outdoor space a dog needs varies depending on its breed, size, and energy level, and it’s important to consider how much outdoor space is available. Active dogs, in particular, require ample outdoor space to exercise and play freely. Generally:

1. Small breeds: They can do well with smaller yards or even balcony spaces for quick outdoor breaks, as long as they get regular walks and exercise.
2. Medium breeds: These dogs benefit from a moderately sized yard where they can run and play. Regular walks and play sessions in larger open spaces are also beneficial.
3. Large and high-energy breeds: They need more space to roam and exercise. A large, securely fenced yard where they can run freely is ideal. These breeds often require more vigorous exercise and space to satisfy their physical and mental stimulation needs.

A 200-foot kit gives your dog 4x more room than a 100-foot kit.

This concept is difficult to understand, but here is a diagram to help you visualize the exponential difference in space you can give your dog when you purchase 200 linear feet instead of a 100 linear foot kit. Providing more space allows dogs to move around comfortably, lie down, and stand up without obstacles.

As you can see with the diagram, you can give your dog up to 2,500 square feet of play area vs. 625 square feet when you purchase a 200 linear foot kit. While you might think you are only doubling the amount of space by increasing your kit to 200 linear feet, you are in fact quadrupling the size of your play area.

Why do different dog breeds try to escape in the first place?

Dogs don’t like being restricted – whether it’s a physical or invisible barrier, so we’ve designed our kit to prevent your dog from climbing, digging, and chewing their way out of their Pet Playgrounds dog fence. However, no enclosure is 100% dogproof, and if any manufacturer tells you their product is – they are lying. Boredom is a major reason. Your dog’s breed or individual behavior may require a lot of exercise. Social interaction with other dogs in community dog parks can also be beneficial for their behavioral development. Walking your dog twice a day or even going to the dog park once a week is not enough activity for many breeds. Dogs need to be off-leash to run and play naturally. While our 100-foot kit will most likely prevent your dog from escaping, your dog won’t be very happy. If you own a large breeding, working, or herding dog they require much more space than a 100-foot kit can provide.

The principle of bracing a corner post is simple. Do to leverage, the greatest tension on the post is along the horizontal wire furthest from the ground. Using a brace kit we are able to transfer that tension back to the base of the post at ground level. That is what allows the post to resist the fence’s tension.
